That said, I’m sure everyone’s been wondering about the downtimes lately and if it’s going to continue, what happened and how it was fixed.
Three days ago, a weekly maintenance process that typically backs up the entire server before performing regular maintenance was running at the time. I’d checked it before I went to bed, because typically prior to the recent downtime, it’d handle the database this forum uses without issue… at least, for a while longer.
The thing is, Karusune, Kradorex and myself knew that there’d be a time where the SQL would just crap itself and die. We didn’t know when, but we knew it was coming. We tried to encourage holy to clean up the forums, remove tMS posts and the like… many things that could’ve been done to keep the forum going.
No longer is this the case. Doujinstyle is now officially on its own. Karusune is gone. I am leaving next. Kradorex will probably leave shortly after as well.
The backbone of this community’s pretty much gone. We were here for the community, we had the solution and we would’ve executed said solution, after I worked for more than 5 hours in the first day, fixing the SQL and returning it back to a usable state and giving Karusune and Kradorex the time to go through it and make further recommendations on how to handle this issue.
Until last night, when holy decided to do it himself, because it was “ez”. He asked for details. I told him he could find it in his e-mail.
Sometime after that, he PMed me in IRC, letting me know it was done. Out of curiosity, I decided to check the database and saw that no, it had not been done.
All he did was tell IPB to put the posts in a trash bin, but not clear it out.
I decided then and there to withdraw official support from EidolonHost from Doujinstyle; this has the effect of leaving Doujinstyle on its own, with no technical support aside from Kradorex. I won’t speak for Kradorex, so I’ll leave that up to him.
Why bother offering support if a website owner is just not going to listen? Far better to just host the site and not handle support for said site.
We are done trying to get holy to understand it is not that “ez”. That DS’s forums has gone through several forum updates/upgrades. That there was better than 90% chances of issues being encountered when holy simply deleted the posts but didn’t clear it out.
The point was, we had a plan. and holy basically told us fuck you.
He probably didn’t mean it that way. Does that matter? No, not really, not anymore. Not after seeing holy treat Karusune like he did last night when holy asked Karusune to let him discuss the situation with him.
I still have the records. I cannot honestly remember ever seeing Karusune that truly angry.
Is there an alternative? Naturally, there is! Visit Scattered Horizon Forums where most, if not all of the DS community seems to be migrating to. I’ll admit, I’m hyping this up because this is where Karusune and I have decided to create, as a way to provide the community with a relaxed environment where things are run well, where we know what we’re talking about and how to get stuff done – in a way that makes it so much more fun to be around others without worrying about whether or not the site’s about to go down because of owner issues.
